Down at the End of Memory’s Lane / Bury Me Beneath the Willow

From the singing of Wade and Julia Mainer, and parts public domain

Down at the end of Memory’s Lane

Many I’ve walked it in gladness

I was the one to walk it last

I walked it alone in sadness.

We were childhood chums together there.

Loved him with all my heart and soul.

But he married another without a thought of care

And he left me in this world alone and cold.

My heart is sad and I am weary

Thinking of the one I love

When will I see him, oh no never

Till we meet in heaven above.

I received a letter from my love

Opened it and this is what it said.

I am sorry if I hurt you, but now it is too late,

For another one my darling, I have wed.

Oh bury me beneath the willow

Under the weeping willow tree

So he will know where I am sleeping

And perhaps he’ll think of me.

I received a letter from my love

Opened it and this is what it said.

I am sorry if I hurt you, but now it is too late,

For another one my darling, I have wed.
